Monthly Q+A: do I need to plan my project out in advance?

A builder told me they can just start building it and figure out how it looks as they go...

Answer:

Yes! (Please plan it out!)

Benefits of planning it out include:

  • Find the best solution, not just the first solution

  • Calibrate the project scope to fit your budget, not the other way around

  • Saves you and the builder time and costly change orders

  • With municipal approvals, it’s easier to ask for permission than forgiveness
